For most of last week it was more of the same with plenty of dry fly fun and mayfly hatching all around the lake. Mayfly patterns, brown, black and white all worked well as did daddies and hoppers especially orange. In fact orange was definitely the flavour of the week again last week with so many landed using that colour. It was definitely a week of two half’s though as the first half of the week saw good numbers being caught but by the end of the week it slowed down considerably especially on the bank holiday weekend. The fish still showed plenty of interest but we’re being very cagey and not fully committing. That is, until Matthew Tate turned up with the orangest orange blob you have ever seen and caught twelve rainbows in no time at all and left the rest of us scratching our heads. It was also another great week for newcomers to the sport. Among them were Tony Keens and his two boys who had a lesson at the lake during the week.
All of them caught a few and saw action on the top of the water for most of the day. A few who went down deeper had success with cats whiskers, blue flash damsels and the odd buzzer but let’s face it if the fish are taking mayfly off the top it’s very hard to resist fishing that way. All in all it’s been a very successful season at Blackdyke and we thank you all for coming. As most of you know we close every July and August and have for some time. We are finishing our season with the whole month of June as any method. This may not be everyone’s cup of tea and we apologise for that but we hope it will be a lot of fun catching some of the huge coarse fish that we know are in there as well as the trout.
As always tight lines.
