Fishing Report

Pre-restock on the 10th of January the fishing was consistently good with most catching good numbers and a few reaching double figures just about everytime they visited the fishery. After the new arrivals were introduced however this was definitely kicked up a notch or two. The fish were spread out around the lake most of the time although the jetty has been unusually quiet. The north end has also been quite but this could have had more to do with anglers not wanting to battle against the strong winds we had for most of last week.

It was not necessary to use a boat to catch fish last week as most of them were easily within casting distance and often hanging out just in front of the reeds. Not unusually the new fish were more than happy to take blobs, fabs and egg patterns and most of the time no more than three feet down. Snakes and eggs worked well with the older fish very well with some bigger fish being caught with snakes very low down with a sinking or intermediate line.

Other patterns that worked well over last week were bloodworm, damsels, dancers, and at times some of the small lures worked static under an indicator.

The two most prolific catchers last week were not surprisingly Martin Smith using snakes and eggs among other things and Kevin stepney having some terrific days with different variations of cat bugs. Anglers  have commented on the quality and condition of the fish caught this week so I would like to say thank you to Richard at West Acre trout farm for doing what he does so that we can do what we do.
